What is engineered wood flooring?

Engineered wood floors are a great way to have the look and feel of wood floors in your home without using as much of the wood resources on the planet.

Depending on the quality of the flooring, the top layer of wood can be as thin as .6mm on the surface or can be as thick as 6mm - an engineered wood floor with a 4mm layer of wood can last up to 80 years. Engineered wood floors are made with between 3 to 12 layers of soft plywood or hardwood material which are glued and pressed together to form a solid board.

The top layer (which is what is seen after installation) is a thick veneer that is glued and pressed to the top of the core. This core will also incorporate the tongue and groove edges that allow the boards to be firmly seated to each other during installation.

What is solid wood flooring?

Solid wood flooring is milled from a solid piece of wood, usually hardwood as it is more durable and long-lasting.

Solid wood flooring will give a warm, natural feeling to your home, and helps to create an inviting and comforting atmosphere. Solid wood flooring is one of the most traditional flooring options available, however there are many more choices of colour, size and styles in this modern times.
